Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

Image of a Sergeant standing in front of a building Palm Beach Gardens Police Officers specially trained as Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Practitioners review residential and commercial site plans and work closely with City planners, architects, builders, and business owners to ensure the proper design of businesses, schools, and neighborhoods. As part of this review process, CPTED trained officers support City Staff during Development Review Committee meetings to incorporate natural security measures into projects to increase the overall quality and design out opportunities for crime.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is defined as "the proper design and effective use of the built environment that can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime and an improvement in the quality of life.
