Hurricane Dorian Information

As we continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian, we encourage residents to have preparations and plans in place in the event our area is affected. All City departments are coordinating closely with each other and will provide updates as information becomes available. For the latest updates, refer to the information outlined below.

City Services - Current Status

Aquatic Complex
The Palm Beach Gardens Aquatic Complex will reopen on Thursday, September 5 for regular operating hours.

Burns Road Community Center
Burns Road Community Center will reopen Thursday, September 5 with full programming.

Lakeside Center
The Lakeside Center will reopen on Friday, September 6. (Canasta on Thursday, September 5 will take place at Burns Road Community Center.)

Parks
All City parks are open, effective immediately.

Riverside Youth Enrichment Center
Riverside Youth Enrichment Center will reopen Thursday, September 5 with full programming.

Sandhill Crane Golf Club
Sandhill Crane Golf Club will reopen on Friday, September 6, weather permitting. Play will likely be cart path only at this time.

Tennis Center
The Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center will reopen on Thursday, September 5 for regular operating hours.

SOLID WASTE SERVICES

Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County has announced it will be operational tomorrow, Wednesday September 4th, 2019. Waste Management will be resuming normal collection of materials scheduled for Wednesday and will follow through Saturday routes, as scheduled.

As a result of the Dorian wind event, they anticipate additional vegetative waste on the curb for the next few weeks and will collect as scheduled. SWAPBC will also deploy the designated bulk routes to address the larger piles.

CITY HALL TO REOPEN ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4TH

City Hall will reopen for business on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. All City Recreation facilities will be closed. Riverside Youth Enrichment Center will remain closed to the general public until public schools reopen.

CITY HALL CLOSED ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD

Due to unsafe conditions associated with Hurricane Dorian, City offices will NOT open for business on Tuesday, September 3rd.

SOLID WASTE SERVICES

Due to the storm’s wavering travel speed and track and the Palm Beach County Solid Waste Authority’s decision to close today and Tuesday, our collection operations are not expected to be running until Wednesday and possibly Thursday.  We will continue to monitor the storm and work closely with the Solid Waste Authority related to their disposal operations.

SOLID WASTE SERVICE

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County has announce there will be no waste collection and solid waste facilities will be closed in Palm Beach County Monday and Tuesday. While regular operations will continue through Saturday, Aug. 31, the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County will CLOSE all facilities and operations on Monday, Sept. 2 and Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, in anticipation of impacts from Hurricane Dorian. No garbage, recyclables or yard waste collection will occur. No onsite drop-offs will be accepted.

CITY STORM PREPARATIONS

As of Friday, August 30th, 2019, all City departments are operating under Phase 3: Tropical Storm/Hurricane Watch protocols as Hurricane Dorian approaches the east coast of Florida. This includes the following:

•    Equipment lists are being reviewed.
•    Additional Officers have been added for Friday and Saturday to assist with crowds/issues around shopping centers, grocery stores, gas stations, Home Depot, etc.
•    Arrangements have been made for the safe parking and storage of City and employee vehicles.
•    Staff has started the fueling and charging process for City vehicles.
•    All City catch basins have been addressed and debris cleared for efficient drainage. All will be monitored.
•    City buildings are being secured with windscreens being removed and shade covers being lowered, including the awning at Veterans Plaza Amphitheater.
•    Building staff is inspecting all construction sites throughout the City.
•    All personnel have been notified that days off are canceled and they are on standby for exact reporting times.

CITY FACILITY CLOSURES

Aquatic Complex
The Palm Beach Gardens Aquatic Complex will be closed starting Friday, August 30 at 1:30 p.m.

Burns Road Recreation Center
Burns Road Community Center will be closed starting Friday, August 30 at 5:00 p.m. All classes and programs have been cancelled.

Lakeside Center
The Lakeside Center is closed.

Parks
All City parks will close at 10 p.m. on Friday, August 30th and remain closed until further notice. All field permits will be cancelled.

Riverside Youth Enrichment Center
Riverside Youth Enrichment Center will be closed starting Friday, August 30 at 6:00 p.m.

Sandhill Crane Golf Club
Sandhill Crane Golf Club will be closed on Friday, August 30th, as the course has received .70” overnight, in addition to 3.25” over the last several days.

Additionally, we will be securing our course and facility for possible emergency operations and will remain closed Saturday through at least Tuesday depending on the storm’s track, timing, and intensity.

Tennis Center
The Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center will be closed starting Friday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m.

The Gardens GreenMarket
The Summer Gardens GreenMarket at STORE scheduled for Sunday, September 1, has been cancelled.

The jurying for Fall GreenMarket vendors scheduled for Wednesday, September 4 has been postponed, date to be announced.
