TENNIS FOR PLAYERS with SPECIAL NEEDS – Volunteers Needed!

The Tennis & Pickleball Center adaptive programs have expanded to provide developmental opportunities for adults and children with disabilities. All of these programs are conducted by professionals with specific training and experience in the field.


All Adaptive Tennis programs take place at the Tennis & Pickleball Center unless otherwise noted and highlighted.

ADAPTIVE TENNIS PROGRAMS 

The Tennis & Pickleball Center adaptive programs have expanded to provide developmental opportunities for adults and children with disabilities. All of these programs are conducted by professionals with specific training and experience in the field.

WHEELCHAIR TENNIS & PICKLEBALL

  • DATE: 2nd & 4th Thursdays 
  • TIME: Youth: 5:30-6:30pm; Adult: 6:30-7:30pm
  • LOCATION: Joseph R. Russo Athletic Complex
  • FEE: $10/lesson 

This is a friendly, helpful group with a limited number of loaner chairs available. USPTA Pro Jim Tierney, who instructs this program and has 20+ years of wheelchair tennis experience, stated “Wheelchair tennis is about camaraderie and human potential. It is the most gratifying thing that I have ever done.” The first lesson is free of charge. This program is supported by a grant from the USTA Florida Foundation.

ADULT LOVE SERVING AUTISM

  • DATE: 2nd & 4th Thursdays 
  • TIME: 5:30-6:30pm
  • LOCATION: Tennis & Pickleball Center 
  • REGISTER: 332107
  • FEE: $90/6-wk session

Space permitting, students may enroll for the remainder of a session in progress at a pro-rated fee.

YOUTH LOVE SERVING AUTISM

JAMIE’S TENNIS ANGELS

  • DATE: Saturdays, November 11, December 16
  • TIME: 1:00-2:00pm
  • LOCATION: Tennis & Pickleball Center 
  • FEE: $0

This program provides an enjoyable monthly occasion for the benefit of community members with special needs. Qualified tennis professionals direct the play – which is adapted to the individual abilities of the participants – helped by enthusiastic volunteers, usually with a one-to-one player-to-volunteer ratio. It is funded by the Frank Family in memory of their daughter/granddaughter/sister, Jamie Alexa. The classes are FREE, but please pre-register at jamiesangels2016@gmail.com.
