February Highlights:
Feb 2: The Highwaymen Celebrate Black History Month with legendary artist R.A. McLendon. For 60 years, Floridians have embraced a renowned group of African American artists known as The Highwaymen. Selling their colorful works of art along the road, the Highwaymen developed a rapid style of painting that captured a romantic vision of Florida. Meet and greet artist R.A. McLendon, a key member of the 26 original Highwaymen, who will be painting on site. Art collector, Roger Lightle, will also have a large display of original paintings for sale.
Feb 9: Abstract Painting in a Digital World with Kim Coker Observe and learn how to create a vibrant painting using abstract and digital techniques. Market-goers will be able to make their own exciting, abstract work of art by using acrylic or oil paint and their smart phone (or digital camera). Weekly painting lessons are offered at Burns Road Community Center on Tuesdays from 9:00am - noon. Find out more at www.pbgrec.com or register for the next session here.

Feb 23: Sew for Sustainability with Resource Depot The Sew for Sustainability Project helps to reduce the troubling amount of single-use plastic bags in our environment by creating handmade, reusable bags from reclaimed fabric donations. The project supports Resource Depot’s most basic educational message: refuse a one-use, throw-away lifestyle and choose sustainable solutions through re-purposing and creative reuse. Market-goers can buy a bag to reuse or try hand making one themselves. All bags are made from up-cycled materials and there is no sewing experience needed to make one!
