Yes, Section 78-328 of the City Code. The City also has a Certified Arborist on staff to answer any questions.

3. Do I need a City permit to prune a tree or palm?

No. However, tree pruning must be done in accordance with the City's pruning code and ANSI 300 pruning safety standards. More information is available on the City's website (link).

4. Does landscape maintenance include plant replacement?

Yes. If a tree, palm, shrub or groundcover dies, it should be replaced within one (1) month. Waiting until many plants have died can become very expensive, unattractive, and ultimately a violation of the City Property Maintenance Standards Ordinance.

5. What is an exotic invasive plant?

It is a non-native plant, like Brazilian pepper, Australian pine or Melaleuca. They are prohibited to grow within the City. The larger they become, the more expensive it is to remove them.

6. How do I find a professional to prune my trees or palms?

Word of mouth, professional arborist organizations, and the phone book work well. Be sure the professional you hire has all the appropriate business licenses and insurances.

7. How do I get an approved Landscape Plan for my property?

Submit a Public Records Request (link). You should receive it within 48 hours.

8. Is the use of Cypress mulch allowed?

All types of organic mulch are allowed. Three inches of mulch is required in all plant beds.

9. What is xeriscape landscaping?

In South Florida, xeriscape is landscaping in ways that reduce or eliminate the need for supplemental irrigation. This reduces water consumption, and using drought tolerant plants and rain sensors can save you money on watering bills.

10. How can I prepare my landscaping for hurricane season?
